If your spring break plans include a frosty beer on the beach, you might want to pay careful attention to the beer you choose. On Thursday, Corona manufacturerConstellation Brands issued a voluntary recall of select bottles of Corona Extra amid concerns that there may be small pieces of glass inside the beerbottles.
According to the company, the recall is very limited, affecting "less than one-tenth of one percent of Corona Extra 12-ounce clear bottles in the marketplace."The recall affects a small number of 12-packs and 18-packs of 12-ounce Corona Extra bottles. Production codes for the recalled bottles are found onthe side of the bottles' packaging and include the following numbers:
Corona Extra 12-Pack Bottles - Production Codes: A016? ? ?4 through B246? ? ?4 OR L285? ? ?4 through L315? ? ?4
Corona Extra 18-Pack Bottles - Production Codes: A216? ? ?8 through B226? ? ?8
According to Constellation Brands, the issue occurred when ABI Breweries, which supplies about 25 percent of the company's Corona Extra, acquired defectivebottles from a third party supplier. The company states that there have been no reported injuries or complaints associated with the defective bottles.
In the meantime, Corona is certainly not the only product affected by a recall over concerns about glass in the product. Nestle is conducting a voluntaryrecall on a much larger scale, recalling 3 million frozen food products because of the "potential presence of glass" in the foods. The company issuedthe recall after several customers reported finding glass in spinach-based products, including DiGiorno pizzas, Lean Cuisine meals, and Stouffer'slasagna and souffle.
Nestle says that no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the glass particles in the food, and says it believes spinach is the commonlink among the consumer findings of glass: "Although our investigation is ongoing, we believe the source of the glass is spinach that was an ingredient common to the products subject to this recall. Nestl USA is taking this action out of an abundance of caution."
